The Eight Essential Apps To Take With You On a Road Trip!

Summer vacation is just about here, and while that means hanging out with friends and family, barbecuing, and working in the yard to some, two words quickly surface in the minds of others – ROAD TRIP!

While it’s important to pack all that you’ll need with you on the road and to prepare yourself and your car for a road trip, you should also prepare your phone for the trip ahead. That means updating it, installing emergency contacts, charging it (and bringing your charger with you), and, of course, installing some awesome apps to help you along the way!

Here are 8 essential apps that you should keep in mind to download for your next road trip, wherever you go!

Spotify (free for Apple and Android) – Don’t have time to burn lots of discs or figure out the perfect playlist on your iPod? No problem! Just download Spotify, and you can search for songs as you go, make your own playlist beforehand, or even grab songs from other members’ playlists on the app. With Spotify at your fingertips, you can feel free to play Motown tunes when you visit Detroit, “Sweet Home Chicago” when you gaze in awe at the city of Chicago, or “Lights” by Journey when you swing by San Francisco.

While the app itself is free to download, you need to pay a monthly fee of $9.99 to listen to tunes at will. But that’s a small price to pay to save money on discs or stop pirating music, right? Right!

Karaoke Anywhere (free for Apple products) – Tired of listening to the music artists sing their songs? Got an Apple product? Then download Karaoke Anywhere, the world’s first and only fully-featured karaoke application with a streaming library of over 14,000 songs! Now you can sing your own renditions of your favorite songs with your friends while on your journey!

GasBuddy (free for Apple products and Android) – These days, road trips can be quite a pricey expenditure. In fact, it would probably cost between $300 and $600 to drive from Chicago to LA on Route 66. With GasBuddy, you can find the cheapest gas in the area around you. So don’t worry about trying to figure out if the gas station you’ve just found has the lowest prices in the area. Just use GasBuddy!

License Plate Travel Game ($0.99 for Apple products, free on Android) – Road trips are indeed fun, but sometimes if you’re traveling through a boring area for several hours at a time, it can get a little monotonous to see the same flat lands over and over and over… and over… (yawn!). That’s why there’s the License Plate Travel Game! This app lets you play continuously throughout your entire trip because it logs all of your finds and keeps a tally of all the plates you see. You get one point for plates that you’ve already found and two for new plates. This is a great app to have with you if you’re traveling on Interstates for a long time!

Air Horn (free for Apple products) – Speaking of boring, sometimes your travel companions may find themselves taking a snooze on the road. And while it’s okay to sleep on the trip a bit, you might get annoyed that they’re missing all the fun or that they’re not doing their share of driving. Air Horn is the perfect solution to wake up your travel buddies, especially if they’re heavy sleepers! Just shake your iPhone, and watch your friends come back to their senses! This app is also great to use at any sporting events you may attend on your trip.

Yelp (free for Apple products and Android) – When you travel to new locations, you know nothing about your new surroundings. How on earth can you know which restaurants are good or which hotel is best for you? That’s where Yelp comes in! You can read reviews and see the ratings that other consumers have left about all sorts of businesses in new locations and see for yourself what’s good and what’s not!

The Weather Channel App – (free for Apple products and Android) – Do the clouds look dark and ominous ahead of you? Can’t tune into the radio to hear if there are any thunderstorm or tornado warnings? Never fear! Just use The Weather Channel app! You can type in any location to see the current weather, the 10-day forecast, and much more! You can check the radar to see if those looming clouds hold rain or threaten severe weather.

iExit Interstate Exit Guide ($1.99 on Apple products, free on Android) – It’s inevitable. There will come a time or two on your road trip that you will wonder when the next gas station, rest area, hotel without bedbugs, or Steak ‘n’ Shake will show up. Instead of having to guess and keep traveling further and further on the road tired, hungry, and nearly out of gas, use iExit Interstate Exit Guide! It will show you what awaits you at the next exit and the ones afterward! This app is super handy to have on the road!

Be safe on the road, and remember – DO NOT text and drive! In fact, avoid using your apps while you’re behind the wheel. That’s what traveling friends are for! And while your friends are using all these fun apps for you on the road, nudge him or her and tell ‘em to check us out on Facebook and Twitter! We will be releasing our Bodacious Case very soon, so get caught up on all the details, stat! Happy trails!

Stay Ahead of the Weather With These 5 Unique and Effective Weather Apps!

Spring is just around the corner, and you know what that means – storms! The Midwest is known for having lots of crazy weather patterns that seem to pop out of nowhere (remember the record-breaking floods from last year?).

Sometimes, though, you may not be in a place in which you can access the news. You may even be stuck in traffic and see ominous black clouds looming in your direction, and you need to know what’s going on right away.

That’s where we come in the picture! We at Bodacious Cases proudly present five helpful apps that will warn you of potentially dangerous weather and help you plan ahead!

The Weather Channel (official app)

A longtime favorite and probably the most used weather app, The Weather Channel’s Official App is an overall solid app that houses a great selection of features. Users can access full weather forecasts and radar maps, and even video information about the weather from The Weather Channel. Best of all, this very credible and easy-to-use app is free in the App Store.

Outside

Want some color and fun with your weather? Then this is the app for you! Outside is a visually stimulating app that colorfully displays the current weather right away. This app also uses a “swipe” interface for viewing forecasts, and it can also notify you of certain weather conditions (for example, when it’s nice enough outside to wear a t-shirt). This app can be all yours for only $2.99 in the App Store.

Weather Doodle

Turn checking the weather into an imaginative, artistic experience with this app! Powered by WeatherBug, Weather Doodle is an app that shows the weather in a beautiful way with its animated art. You can view your weather conditions and forecasts in gorgeous animation. The app features several themes that can be downloaded from within the app itself. It can be purchased for only $0.99 in the App Store.

Storm Sim Free

Have you ever wished for a mean thunderstorm to pop up in the atmosphere over you, even if meteorologists insist that the week will consist of lots and lots of sunshine? Well, now you can make your own storm happen! Create your own perfect storm with Storm Sim Free! If you’re in the mood for heavy thunder with little rain, let it rip! If you only want to hear heavy rain against a window with only the occasional roll of thunder, be our guest. If you simply want to hear white-noise rain so you can sleep more peacefully, then your wish is granted. You can create your own storm with this app for free!

RadarScope

If you’re a storm-chaser at heart or simply a weather fanatic, then this is the app that will tickle your fancy! RadarScope lets you “chase” the storms without risking your life! It allows you to view the NEXRAD Level 3 radar data, along with Tornado, Severe Thunderstorm, and Flash Food Warning issued by the National Weather Service. You can view the latest reflectivity, velocity, and more in all of the United States, Guam, and Puerto Rico! This means you can see how the weather is for family members and friends who live in different areas of the United States. This fun app costs $9.99 in App Store, but it’s well worth the money!

Oh, and along with the weather, keep your eyes out on the horizon for the release of our Bodacious Case, coming soon in the spring! Check out our Facebook page and Twitter page for more information!

Which Apps Will YOU Use This New Year’s Eve?

Believe it or not, the New Year is approaching quickly, and 2011 will be gone before you know it! Many friends and relatives will get together and celebrate 2012’s arrival at the stroke of midnight, and pictures will be taken, couples will kiss, and the champagne will be a-flowin’ at this magical transition in time.

Even though they’re (supposedly) notorious for keeping us out of the here and now, our iPhones can help us capture the moments we long to preserve – a picture of our loved ones and friends cheering at 2012’s arrival, a video of people singing “Auld Lang Syne,” and pictures of fireworks and other means of celebration. And with all the apps out there now, there are so many choices for us to help capture those perfect moments of celebration!

Connecting with one another and staying connected is super-important, especially during the holidays. Fortunately, there are tons of great apps out there that can help you stay connected with your friends and family! If you’re one of the millions of Facebook users, then the Facebook app (which is free, by the way!) is definitely for you! You can upload any pictures you take throughout the night and early morning, update your status, and be the first to wish all your friends and family a happy new year!

Speaking of wishing your family a happy new year, why not just call them? Everyone LOVES hearing from their siblings, parents, grandchildren, and others! And don’t just stop at calling them – use an app to have a video conversation with them, too! Skype is easy to use, and you can see the person you’ve called while you talk to them on your iPhone. Facetime, which is specifically for iPhone, is probably the easiest way to make video calls, though. If you happen to not have an iPhone, Tango is also a great way to make video calls across all phone platforms. We guarantee this videochat will make your family’s night!

Weather can be capricious in our nation and can change from balmy and sunny to tumultuous and cold in a matter of minutes. For example, while the weather is currently projected to be partly cloudy and 55 degrees Fahrenheit in the Metro St. Louis area, anything can change still (Remember last year? We were in the mid 70’s… and had some deadly tornadoes!)! For only 99 cents, you can download Weather+, one of the best weather apps out there. Not only does it tell you the weather for your location, listing the temperature, time, humidity, precipitation, and your 5-day forecast, but it also has some awesome imagery and design! You can also create and save customized weather pages for different locations you visit on a regular basis – now THAT’s bodacious!

Picture-taking is totally a MUST on New Year’s Eve, so why not download the free photo app Flickr? You can instantly upload your images from your phone onto the site, and you can also see shots from other friends who use the site! You can also use the 2011 App of the Year, Instagram, to give your photos an extra something to them before you upload them.

And what New Year’s Eve party is complete without watching the Times Square ball drop? No party, that’s what! Download the Official Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball app, and watch the ball drop wherever you might be! This is especially handy for those who don’t have cable or a television nearby.

New Year’s Eve is a fun night of celebration, but it can also turn tragic quickly. If you do drink, DO NOT DRIVE! Stay at a friend’s house or let a friend drive you home. Better yet, if you live in the city, you can use the app Taxi Magic to help you nab a cab home!

So which apps will YOU be using this year at New Year’s Eve? Tell us on our Facebook fan page or on our Twitter account! We hope you have a happy and BODACIOUS new year!
